Message See profile for mods, see last paragraph for my impression of the 96's torque curve and how it contrasts with the earlier years. :)

My car ran VERY well, and posted EXTREMELY good numbers for stock turbos. Note that these numbers are "measured" not corrected. It was a fairly cool day, around 65 degrees... so I'm sure that helped out the numbers a bit.

This was on a brand new Mustang Dyno, it was just calibrated last month and a group of Spec Miata racers did pulls on Saturday. The most any of them could manage after all their tweaking was 117rwhp, which (according to them) was spot-on. Many of them were lucky to have 113rwhp. So I'm fairly certain the dyno is accurate within reason.

Anyway, enough babbling. Onto the results!!

The first run at 12psi:

Those numbers seem very strong and about right, previously the car did 294rwhp with just an intake and pulley at 11psi at another dyno a couple years ago. So I don't think 344rwhp after adding DownPipes, MidPipes, Catback, and upping the boost a little is out of reason. Note, this is a bit more power than what some will get from a JWT ECU at the same boost level because of the very advanced timing of the stock ECU. But this is the limit on pump gas for the stock ECU, the JWT guys can push 15psi on the same gas and run the same numbers. (or better)

Note the flat-spot after 3600, that is because the boost was at 11psi and I turned it to 12 in the middle of the dyno run, LOL. So just ignore that anomaly, you won't see it in the other graphs.

Here is a video of that run:

11-12psi, 344rwhp

(I am in the passenger seat.)

The second run is at 15psi, running 15% toluene. It was actually my real reason for going to the dyno, I wanted to make damn sure the car wasn't pinging at 15psi with that stuff.

It's all good:

Unfortunately I didn't get a video of that run. The toluene definately shows it's nature as a pure hydrocarbon. Lots of light grey smoke. (which wasn't present during the 12psi or 17psi racegas runs)

And finally, the big number. Here is my 17psi run on Sunoco 104 Race Fuel. It looks like Ash was right, the stock ECU handles 17psi and race fuel with style and grace. :) (notice the map scale is a bit different, hehe)

Here is the video from the run:

Boost Boost Boost!!!

You'll notice that on all of my runs, the torque number is lower than the HP number. The 96 doesn't have as much midrange torque as the earlier years because of its loss of NVCS. (I'm assuming) Fortunately it didn't lose any of it's high-end.

Good Fun.
